Researchers at the University of Guelph inserted an E. Coli gene mixed with a snippet of mouse DNA into pig chromosomes to create 16 environmentally friendly "enviropigs." Failing to find a company to raise the animals commercially, the university plans to euthanize all of the enviropigs.
Farm Sanctuary has found loving homes in Canada and the U.S. for all the enviropigs, but the university is refusing their adoption offers. Professor Richard Moccia, associate vice president of research at the University of Guelph, claimed, "Adoption, donation or transfer of the animals would represent a breach of our protocols, as well as Canadian regulations."
It is wasteful and cruel to kill healthy, intelligent pigs just because the university is done using them for research. The enviropigs deserve an opportunity to live outside in the fresh air, take mud baths and bask in the sun just like normal pigs. Tell the University of Guelph researchers not to kill the enviropigs.

"On May 10, 2012, my dog Mijo was killed by a minister in a public street using a machete. Mijo had gotten out of his leash to be with a female dog when one of my neighbors of a couple houses down crossed the street with a machete and struck him 4 times.
He was struck 2 in the face, 1 splitting his nose in half, the other one on his mouth, and 2 on his thigh. Mijo limped his way back but could... only make it to the front porch where he died.
When I found his body, I knew he was dead but I kept petting him asking him to wake up and please come home with me. I confronted the neighbor and he said he killed the dog with the machete. When asked why he did not respond.
The Sheriff was notified but didn't even look remotely interested in the report. I have called the office several times and they told me that they haven't even gotten an investigator to look over the case. I can't press charges until that is done.
2 news stations were contacted but told me that they cant do too much because it's still under investigation. Mijo did not deserve to die this way. I will try my best to get something done about this."
Jose Salazar, a Minister residing in Alamo, TX, had no problem going into this house, grabbing a Machete, and striking the Yellow Labrador Retriever belonging to an Iraqi Veteran not once, not even twice, but FOUR times. Eating dog meat is widely regarded as uncivilized in Thailand, but smugglers in northeastern Tae Rae export an estimated 30,000 strays to Vietnam every month, at a price of $10 per head. In Vietnam, grilled dog meat sells for three times the price of pork.
Stray dogs are corralled daily and crammed into wire cages before being smuggled through illegal river borders. Though most are exported to Vietnam, a minority are butchered and sold as "meat" in Thai open markets. Local residents complain about the disgusting practice. According to Wit, the boss of a dog collecting crew, "We have to pay the police to leave us alone."
Exporting strays for the dog meat trade or selling dog meat in local markets is cruel, illegal and disturbing to most Thailand residents. Please sign the petition to encourage Tae Rae authorities to crack down on the dog meat trade.

Poaching and illegal ivory trade are on the increase worldwide.
In 2011 there was an unprecedented number of seizures of illegal ivory in countries around the world.
Within about 30 days in early 2012, 300 to 650 elephants were killed by heavily armed poachers in a single national park in Cameroon, out of an estimated national population of 3,000 to 5,000.
IFAW believes that even one elephant killed for its ivory is one too many. We will not stand by idly while elephants are needlessly slaughtered to meet a demand for luxury goods.

JILTED BOYFRIEND STAMPED ON HAMSTER AND FED IT TO HIS DOG AFTER GIRLFRIEND DUMPED HIM! ( Taken from the Huffington Post )
A 22-year-old man hurled his girlfriend's hamster against the wall then stamped it to death before feeding it to his dog - all because she dumped him.
Ryan O'Brien killed the helpless pet called Dave to get back at Jemma Tracey, 23, after she ended their six-year relationship.
Magistrates heard Jemma visited jilted O'Brien's home in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in July last year to collect her belongings, including her two pet hamsters.
Fearing he was facing eviction on top of losing his girlfriend, jobless OβBrien refused to hand the animals over and demanded a Β£20 ransom for them.
But when Jemma refused to pay O'Brien picked up one of the hamsters, called Dave, and warned her she had "one more chance".
She again refused to give him the money so OβBrien hurled the pet against the wall of his flat.
It crashed off the wall and initially survived the horrific attack until O'Brien, realising the rodent was still alive, crushed the dazed animal under his boot before calling over across his bulldog - to lap up the remains off the floor.
Heartless OβBrien reached for the second hamster and threatened to slit its throat before desperate Jemma paid his demand of Β£5 and fled with her surviving pet.
O'Brien was arrested the next day and charged with causing unnecessary suffering to an animal under the 2006 Animal Welfare Act.
But he walked free from court on Wednesday after magistrates in Stevenage sentenced him to a suspended sentence of six months behind bars after pleading guilty to the act of cruelty dubbed by a magistrate as "uncontrollable rage".
Mark Jones, prosecuting for the RSPCA, told magistrates the offence was "premeditated and gratuitous cruelty".
He told Stevenage Magistrates Court told the court that Jemma said she had returned to the property soley to collect her things and that O'Brien flew into a rage because he believed he was about to be evicted.
He said: "Jemma had recently ended the relationship, he could not accept that it was over and he was angry.
"He acknowledged that he had been drinking and she remembers him stumbling around and that his breath smelt of cider.
"He suddenly started screaming at her 'it's all your fault I'm getting kicked out, I hope you die.
"He demanded to be paid Β£20 for the hamsters, threatening to kill them if she didn't pay.
"He picked up Dave and held him in his hand and said 'you've got one more chance' before throwing the hamster as hard as he could against the wall.
"Miss Tracey said she heard a huge thud and before the hamster fell down behind the sofa.
"He picked it up and said 'oh look its still alive' and the dropped it to the floor and stamped on it.
"Miss Tracey says she saw the hamster explode with it's guts spilling out onto the floor, he then called over his dog which started to lick up the blood."
Mr Jones added: "As she left O'Brien said to her 'I would have cut the hamster's throat and made you watch me, I hope you and your daughter go in the same coffin."
The attack took place on 23 July, last year, three months after the Jemma had ended their relationship.
O'Brien pleaded guilty on the day that his trial was due to begin at Hertford Magistrates April 3, this year.
Tracey, of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, said she and the defendant had been in an on-and-off relationship for six years.
She ended in March 2011 when she gave birth to her first daughter Honesty, who O'Brien was not the father of.
Jemma said: "I couldn't stand what he did, I just watched and I couldn't believe it.
"It's disgusting. He was laughing he thought it was funny, he said he wanted to hurt me and that was the best way he could think of.
"I don't believe a word about him being sorry, it's just a game to him."
She added: "I had had enough of the way he was treating me and I wanted better for my child so I ended it.
"I feel let down that he didn't get jail, he doesn't have any remorse, he was laughing when he killed the hamster and he was laughing today in court.
"I'm really angry because he thinks he has got away with it.
"He has to learn he can't get away with what he has done, you can't do that to an animal.
"His defence says he's sorry but he doesn't act like it and I don't believe him. I want people to see what he is really like, he couldn't care less."
O'Brien attended court flanked by friends and his new girlfriend, more than once he appeared to smirk in the dock and one of his friends was ejected from court for laughing out loud.
Chairman of the bench Malcolm Wulwick condemned O'Brien's "uncontrollable rage."
He said: "Mr O'Brien you wilfully killed and mutilated a helpless animal in your uncontrollable rage.
"I sentence to 24 weeks in prison, this would have been 26 had it not been for your late guilty plea. This sentence will be suspended for two years."
Mr Wulwick also insisted that O'Brien carry out 140 hours of unpaid community service attend an offenders substance abuse programme and pay Β£375 towards the cost of the case.

In March 2012, over 20,000 Compassion supporters responded to the tragedy that occurred aboard the Gracia del Mar, where thousands of cattle died whilst being exported from Brazil to Egypt. Yet despite this phenomenal pressure, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) have completely failed in their responsibility to take action on this disaster.
What is more, recent footage shot in Egypt and received by Compassion in World Farming shows animals being subjected to brutal slaughter malpractice, completely in breach of international slaughter guidelines. This footage we have received is some of the worst we have ever seen, and is just too horrific to show publicly.
Once again, it is the OIE who are responsible for developing these guidelines, and they are failing abysmally in their duty to protect farm animals.
Our latest information suggests the surviving animals aboard the Gracia del Mar were eventually unloaded in Djibouti. However, it appears that they may still be sent on to Egypt, where they could be subjected to the shocking slaughter conditions that we have witnessed on film.
Please take action now: Call on the OIE to make sure all member nations effectively implement the transport AND slaughter guidelines, and insist that the OIE confirms what action they took, if any, to resolve the Gracia del Mar tragedy.

The 2012 Grand National has claimed the lives of two horses, including one of the pre-race favourites Synchronised ridden by Tony McCoy.
The horse suffered a fatal injury when falling at Becher's Brook in the race, while According to Pete, ridden by Harry Haynes, also died.
JP McManus, owner of Synchronised, said: "He's been killed, so I believe. I'm sure they'll make an announcement shortly."
McCoy was unseated by the Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning horse prior to the race and looked to have hurt his arm, but managed to make the start before tragedy struck.
Gavin Grant, chief executive of the RSPCA, said after the race: "The death of two horses at the Grand National, bringing the total to three at the Aintree meeting, is totally unacceptable.
"This is the second year running that two horses have died. In its current format, the risks to horses are not appropriate and we want an urgent examination of the Grand National, including a number of fences including Beecher's Brook where horses are continuing to die despite safety improvements.
"It would appear the whip was overused in the final stages of the race. If that is the case it is totally unacceptable and given the narrow margin of the win I believe the result should be reversed."

Professor Tim Morris, Director of Equine Science and Welfare for the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), added: βWe are very sad about the fatal injuries suffered by Synchronised and According to Pete in the Grand National.
βIn both cases the horse incurred a fracture to the leg and the humane option was to put the injured horses down.
βThe Grand National undoubtedly represents a challenge to both horse and rider. It has inherent risks, but, working closely with Aintree and other stakeholders, we do all we can to minimise these risks while maintaining the unique character of the race. We will examine closely the circumstances which led to both incidents.
βThe key data from these accidents will be collated, as is the BHAβs policy in the event of any serious equine injury. Each year the BHA and Aintree review all incidents which occur during the Grand National meeting and consider what measures can be taken to address the risk of a repeat in the future.
βThe BHA takes its responsibility of looking after the welfare of horse and rider very seriously. We consult and work with recognised welfare organisations such as the RSPCA, SSPCA and World Horse Welfare. It is our stated objective to continue to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities which occur in racing.β

Two horses also died at the 2011 race and efforts were made prior to this year's National to improve safety.
The BHA published a review last November, recommending changes to parts of the course.
Paul Roy, Chairman of the organisation, said at the time: "The sad events at the 2011 Grand National demonstrated the risks that this race can present, and rightly focused world attention on one of the British Horseracing Authority's core objectives: to protect the safety and welfare of Racing's human and equine participants."

Every year Canada's commercial clubbing and shooting to death of baby harp seals for their fur is documented. To witness such cruelty is absolutely heartbreaking, but it's the only way to expose the largest slaughter of marine mammals on Earth.
This year, like in those of the recent past, the slaughter will begin after countless baby seals have died because their birthing and nursing grounds of sea ice are rapidly melting due to climate change. In some places, not a single baby seal is left. And to add insult to injury, after the largest seal fur processor, NuTan, announced it would no longer process seal products, another company revealed it is receiving government financing to buy seal skins this year.
Tragically, the Canadian government still allows sealers to slaughter what surviving pups they can find, and this year's irresponsible quota of the seals allowed to be killed is set at 400,000. Please join me in telling Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to stop the assault on baby harp seals and call off the slaughter!
It's unbelievable that such an unnecessary slaughter could still happen after the largest seal fur processor closed and while poor ice conditions and high mortality rates continue to threaten the very survival of harp seal populations off Canada's east coast.
Even before the massive slaughter begins on the Front in just a matter of days, sealers were in the Gulf of St. Lawrence for a smaller, local hunt of very young harp seals. We were there to document the killing. It's almost too much to bear, considering what's still to come.

Throughout the history of the U.S., horses can be seen playing a role either working for us or living with us as our companions or pets. They have never been raised for human consumption, yet they are slaughtered by the thousands to meet the demand for their meat by foreign diners in Europe and Asia.
In 2007, slaughtering horses on U.S. soil came to an end when the last slaughterhouses in Texas and Illinois were closed for good. Now, with the passage of a new law that will fund USDA inspections of horse meat, there is an effort underway to once again open the doors to this barbaric practice in states that do not have a ban in place. We have always known that Compassionβs supporters are amazing, and your response to the Gracia Del Mar disaster shows once again that when farm animals need urgent help, you are there to defend them.
We would like to thank everyone who took action on this issue. Within the first 40 hours of us alerting you to this situation over 40,000 emails were sent to Brazil, Egypt and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) in Paris. This response is truly astounding.
A final update...
Weβre now able to bring you an explanation for, and the final outcome of, this tragedy. Reports we have received suggest that when the Gracia Del Mar livestock ship passed the Algerian Coast, en route from Brazil to Egypt, it passed through a snow storm and extremely cold weather. Many of the cattle could not withstand this severe weather and this led to thousands of deaths.
The ship then tried to dock in a number of places along the Red Sea and was refused for several days, both at Egyptian ports and in other nations. We understand that all live cattle have now been transferred from the Gracia Del Mar and have been taken to land, although it is not clear which country the animals finally ended up in.
Around 3,000 animals, over half of those onboard the Gracia Del Mar when it left Brazil, are thought to have died in this catastrophe. While many of the exact details of this event remain unknown, one thing is clear: the long distance transport of animals must stop.
Compassion has campaigned for many years on this issue, and this latest tragedy provides yet more evidence that long distance live transport has no place in modern farming. Our campaign goes on, and with your help, we will continue to fight to make sure these tragic disasters become a thing of the past.

Following yesterdayβs urgent email , an overwhelming 13,500 of you have taken action to help the stranded cattle in the Red Sea β thank you! We now have an update on the current situation with the Gracia Del Mar cattle transporter.
It has been reported to us that all the remaining live cattle on the transporter have been transferred to another vessel. We have been unable to independently verify this report, but it is from a well placed source. We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops and work hard to ensure the cattle are receiving the treatment they need.
However, we are appalled at the lack of response from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). Despite being informed about the situation as it developed, the OIE have taken no action on this tragedy and informed us that they had no plans to do so until 12th March.
This was in blatant disregard of the OIEβs own rules on the transport of animals by sea, under which they are meant to take a leading role in emergency situations.

Dying cattle are stranded at sea; more than 2750 are already dead. We must take urgent action now to end this welfare disaster.
The Gracia Del Mar set out from Brazil, bound for Egypt with thousands of cattle on board. It is currently in the Red Sea area, near Eritrea. The ship has had an engine failure which has led to a failure in the ventilation system.
Reports suggest that more than 2,750 cattle are already dead, and the situation is worsening with every hour that passes. The ship has attempted to dock at a number of ports, including its destination port in Egypt, but has been turned away due to the number of dead and dying cattle. Reports suggest conditions on board are desperate.
The Brazilian and Egyptian authorities must take urgent action today to end this major welfare disaster. Not only is it their responsibility to do so, but they have the resources to provide the support and veterinary expertise so urgently needed.

In just a few weeks in Taiji, Japan, I have witnessed unimaginable cruelty and bloodshed. The film The Cove is horrifying, and even though Iβve been here before, I can never fully prepare for what I am witnessing: the slaughter and mutilation of hundreds of dolphins.
On February 22, Amazon.com responded to consumer pressure and removed dolphin, porpoise, and whale meat from their online store after the Environmental Investigation Agency and Humane Society International exposed them for selling whale bacon, whale jerky, canned whale meat, and more than 100 other products. But they have yet to adopt a clear policy that Amazon.com will never sell these items.
Quietly pulling those products from their site is not enough. Itβs time for Amazon.com to put a permanent ban on whale, dolphin, and porpoise meat in place.
I know that not everyone can come to Japan to join me to speak out for dolphins and whales, but together we can convince Amazon to permanently stop selling all whale, dolphin, and porpoise products. If Amazon--the largest online retailer in the world--were to adopt a policy like this, it would send a clear message to the world.

Dogs are suffering a hellish death by being baked alive for a 'better flavor', due to extreme release of stress hormone adrenaline. Every year, thousands of primates are captured in the wild and then transported in the cargo holds of commercial airlines to laboratories and intensive breeding facilities. Many are seriously injured along the way, or don't survive at all.
Last year, more than 28,000 people called on airlines to adopt "No Cruel Cargo" policies -- and Air Canada listened. Air Canada now refuses to transport animals destined for testing, and explicitly said that "it was a decision taken both to align our policies with those of many other major international carriers and in response to widespread public concern."
But now the Canadian Transportation Authority (CTA) has suspended Air Canadaβs new policy, saying itβs responding to a complaint. (No further information, about the nature of the complaint or who made it, has been disclosed.)
The British Union to Abolish Vivisection (BUAV) opposes animal testing and the global trade that supplies it. When the CTA announced it was freezing Air Canadaβs "No Cruel Cargo" policy, BUAV immediately started a petition on Change.org to get the CTA to back off and they're deliveirng it this week. Will you sign BUAV's petition telling the Canadian Transportation Authority to stop blocking Air Canada from committing to not transport live primates for testing?
The CTA actually said back in August that Air Canada was completely within its rights to refuse to transport testing animals. But now, the CTA is ambiguous about exactly why it is suspending Air Canada's new policy. Thousands of people came together to make their voices heard and caused Air Canada to make a company-wide policy change. If the CTA hears from enough people who support Air Canada's "No Cruel Cargo" policy, it will have to take action, too.

A 32-year-old San Jose man held back tears Sunday, devastated after his beloved seven-pound Yorkshire Terrier named Shadow was killed while trying to protect him from a beating by three street thugs.
"All I saw was a big puddle of blood," said the man named "Miguel," who didn't want his last name used for fear of further retaliation. "I can't believe this is happening."
The shocking incident, investigated by police and witnessed in parts by several people, happened quickly early Saturday afternoon.
As Miguel recounts it, he was walking his Yorkie to the corner of Winchester Boulevard and Colonial Way beside the Salvation Army store when the three young men approached. They had been helping with a car wash across the street, raising money for the funeral of a friend who had been killed earlier this month.
"Are you a gang-banger?" they asked.
Miguel was wearing a red sweater and a Boston Red Sox ball cap, but denied any gang ties. He is a flooring installer.
"All I wanted was to get my dog out of there," he said. "I didn't care about them hurting me."
Not only was Shadow his constant companion for six years, but he credits the dog with helping him overcome drug addiction. "Just being able to come home to him filled that void, whatever was missing. The dog gave me that love."
Some of his friends joked that such a big guy had such a little dog, but Miguel didn't care. They went everywhere together. If a store didn't allow Shadow inside, "I wouldn't go to that store," Miguel said. He called the dog "Shadow Wado" and wore a T-shirt with the dog's picture on it. Another picture of the tiny brown-haired Yorkie serves as Miguel's phone screensaver.
During Saturday's attack, Miguel remembers tripping on the sidewalk and falling face first as he tried to run away. When he fell, he said, the men who appeared to be in their 20s began punching and kicking him.
"I didn't want to let the leash go," he said, but it fell from his hands when he hit the pavement. At some point, Shadow's furious barking stopped. Out of the corner of his eye, Miguel saw Shadow lying limp on the sidewalk.
"I think he got trampled or stomped on purposefully," said Miguel, who didn't witness the attack on his dog.
After Miguel managed to push off his attackers, they fled, and Miguel rushed to his dog's side. Miguel's forehead was scraped, but blood poured from his dog's mouth and ears.
The man picked up his dog, cradled him in his arms and cried.
On Sunday, several witnesses who had been selling Valentine's Day flowers across Winchester Boulevard the day before, said they saw the commotion from a distance.
One witness said he watched four men, not three, returning to the car wash, laughing, shaking hands, and holding the Red Sox ball cap like a trophy.
"The boys at the carwash ran through the street. They got the guy and started beating him," said the flower vender, who didn't want to give his name for fear of reprisals. "They took his red hat and they brought the hat back. The guy stayed there. He had a puppy in his hands."
Within minutes, the 30 or so volunteers helping with the makeshift car wash in a restaurant parking lot on Winchester and Impala Way disbanded. Earlier, witnesses say, they had been waving signs with a photograph of Ramon Ruano, 20, who was shot and killed Feb. 5 in San Jose. They were asking for donations to pay for the funeral.
"I didn't see the fight, but I just saw them running in all sorts of directions," said another flower seller, who also declined to be identified. "Then they were all gone and never came back."
Police arrived at the scene shortly thereafter, she said, and interviewed her and several others. Animal control officers, who could not be reached Sunday, also interviewed Miguel.
San Jose Police Sgt. Jason Dwyer said Sunday the department is "willing to help animal control services in any way we can to catch the people responsible for this. Animal cruelty is a serious crime. If someone were to do that to my dog, I'd feel in a similar manner."
Miguel's mother and brother gathered at his apartment Sunday to try to comfort him. Miguel was in such shock at the death of his dog, he brought Shadow's body home from the vet Saturday and kept it next to him on the couch overnight. Miguel planned to have the dog cremated later Sunday.
"I've never seen someone love a pet so much," said Miguel's mother, Laura Rojas. And Shadow, she said, "was so protective. He had the heart of a lion."

Cruel couple face jail over sheep dog which became trapped in a ball of its own matted hair
A couple are facing jail after admitted the "appalling" neglect of a sheep dog which became trapped in a twenty-eight pound ball of its own hair. David, 62, and Marjorie Massey, 60, admitted two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to five-year-old sheep dog Floyd.
Animal cruelty officers admitted the level of cruelty he suffered was "incomprehensible" β and the pair said they left it so long because they were too embarrassed to go to a vet. Their pride meant they felt too ashamed to take him for treatment despite his mangy coat, painful 2in toe-nails, chronic eye and ear infections and an untreated tumour in his mouth.
Floyd was dumped at an animal shelter where carers cut his mound of filthy hair, which made it almost impossible for him to see, hear or go to the toilet. Bedford Magistrates' Court heard it had taken four workers more than an hour to free Floyd from his tangled cocoon and underneath his body was covered in cysts and sores. Despite his efforts the animal, renamed by carers, was so distressed vets were forced put him down.
Magistrates warned the Masseys, from Beeston, Beds, that they faced being thrown behind bars for their cruelty. Chair of the bench Dr Disney-Durrant said: "Because of the length of abuse in this case I have to warn you we will be considering a custodial sentence." The case was adjourned for sentencing until February 8.
Couple sentenced over 'trapped in fur' dog cruelty charges
A couple have been given suspended jail terms after their Old English Sheepdog had to be put down after being found trapped in its own fur.
David and Marjorie Massey, from Beeston, in Bedfordshire, were too embarrassed to take Woody the dog to a vet, prosecutors said.
The Court hearing was held on 8TH February where The couple admitted two animal cruelty charges at Bedford Magistrates' Court.
They were sentenced to 22 weeks in jail, suspended for two years.
Massey, 62, and his partner, 60, were each told to complete 250 hours of unpaid work and pay Β£619 costs. They were also banned from keeping pets for life at Wednesday's hearing.

Why This Is Important
A Nashville, TN. pitbull named Prada has had repeated trials, been deemed vicious and is sentenced to death by the judicial system.
We feel she has not been given a fair trial due to the existing anti-pitbull status of Metro Animal control, where ALL pitbulls are euthanized for their breed, regardless of their temperament. We also feel her judgement has been based on bias and untrue testimony.
According to the Honorable Judge, Nashville law does not allow sentencing options between giving the said dog back to her owner, Nicole Andree, and the death sentence of euthanasia.
We are asking Governor Haslam to please halt the death sentence of Prada Andree and allow the Judge to seek other alternatives for rehabilitation. The said owner's parents have agreed to take Prada as well as a rescue group, if the Governor will pardon Prada.

The birds are kept in tiny wire cages or packed into sheds. No matter where you stand on deer culls, it is clear that deer should not be injured and left to die a slow painful death when an amateur opportunist shoots them. This is, however, exactly what is happening in the Scottish Highlands right now, thanks to an ill-advised bounty on deer carcasses.
Without the experience or motivation to shoot and swiftly kill the right animals, freelance hunters after a quick profit or a quick thrill are busy killing and injuring deer indiscriminately.
The bounty does not even have the intended effect. Although the amateur hunters are injuring more deer, they are killing far fewer than their professional predecessors. Plus, many fawns are being left orphaned when hunters shoot their mothers. Even professional deer stalkers in the area are condemning the bounty.
Tell Scottish Natural Heritage not to turn over deer culling to hopeless wannabe hunters. The results are cruel and useless.

Thanks to your fast work and dedication, we are thrilled to confirm that Air France has cancelled plans to deliver these monkeys into the hands of experimenters!

Police are investigating two horrific attacks in which horses were mutilated and killed within a few days.
A stallion called Eric was found with His genitalia, an eye and teeth cut out in Cornwall while in Carmarthenshire, south Wales, an attacker or attackers slashed a pony's body and removed both eyes.
Eric was found in his field near Falmouth by his owner, Dawn Jewell, who said she had lost her "baby".
"I absolutely adored him," she said. "Why would someone be so nasty and do that to a beautiful animal who's never done anything? It's just gutting. I've had him since he was a foal and brought him up."
DI Tony Blatchford, of Devon and Cornwall police, said: "This is a particularly sickening crime, one that I've never come across before involving such extensive mutilation.
"Detectives are following lines of inquiry to try to identify the offender and I'd ask all horse and livestock owners to be particularly vigilant and report anything suspicious to police."
Police are investigating whether the animal was drugged before he was attacked between 4pm on Sunday and midday on Monday. A mare and a foal in the field with Eric were left unharmed.
The RSPCA said one of its officers would be examining the horse with a vet to try to find out more details about the attack, including whether the mutilation happened before or after the horse died.
"This is a shocking incident and I cannot imagine what would cause someone to carry out such a cowardly and barbaric act," a spokeswoman said.
Dyfed-Powys police confirmed it is investigating an attack on a pony in Carmarthenshire on 5 January. Linda Vickerage, a nurse, discovered the remains of seven-year-old Welsh pony, Barney, when she went to give him and her other pony their evening feed at a field in Whitland, near St Clears.

A loving pet owner has spoken of her horror after finding her beloved pony had been sadistically tortured and mutilated.
Linda Vickerage found the maimed remains of her seven-year-old Welsh pony, Barney, on Thursday evening when she had gone to give him and her other pony, Fella, their evening feed.
Having made the horrific discovery, Linda called the police and then a vet, who found Barney had been subjected to vicious injuries, including having his eyes removed, his mouth slit, his ear cut, and been slashed along his body, exposing his organs.
Linda, a practice nurse who lives in Ciffig, Carmarthenshire, is now fearing for Fellaβs welfare and says she believes those responsible may have returned on Friday night and removed another chunk of Barneyβs ear.
She said: βI am devastated at what has happened.
βBarney had a beautiful, lovely personality.
βI had rescued them both when they were foals and the two of them had a tremendously strong bond.
βIt was my habit of feeding them in the morning and the evening.
βThe last time I saw both of them alive was on Wednesday night. I had then gone up early on Thursday morning but only Fella came out, but that was not unusual as one of them often stayed laying down in the field.
βI went back on Thursday night and I called them but only Fella came, so I called Barney and I knew something was wrong when he didnβt respond. There was also something clearly wrong with Fella, he was very agitated.
βI grabbed my torch and went to look around. I could see Barney on the ground so I rushed over to him.
βThere was blood everywhere, pouring from his eyes and his abdomen. It was such a shock, it was unbelievable.
βThe police arrived but it was dark, so I went back up there on Friday morning and it was just horrific.
βThey had taken his eyes out and chopped part of his ear off and cut him all along his body and removed his internal organs.
βWhoever did this did not just attack him, they took sadistic pleasure from it. They butchered him alive.
βThe vet said it was the worst case he had ever seen. Whoever did this is a very evil person.
βBarney is still in the field as the vet said if they took him away it may do more damage to Fella as he is still grieving. Heβs seen some terrible things.
βI am afraid the person responsible will come back to remove the evidence or attack Fella. I think they have already come back, as only part of Barneyβs ear was missing the first night, and then his whole ear had been cut off on Saturday morning. I want to see whoever did this locked up, I canβt believe someone is capable of doing this to an animal, itβs despicable.β
Lindaβs daughter, Nicola, who lives in London, says she is now concerned about her motherβs welfare.
She said: βMy motherβs beautiful little Welsh pony has been tortured we are all absolutely devastated about what has happened, but what concerns me most of all now is her safety.
βIf you ever met my mother, she is the most quiet and agreeable person. We want people to come forward so we can get justice for this little pony.β
Dyfed Powys Police would not comment on whether they were investigating the case or not, but the RSPCA said they would be taking action to try to find the people responsible for the brutality.
An RSPCA spokeswoman said: βThis is a horrific attack and it seems unbelievable that somebody could do something like this to an animal. Our sympathies go out to the owner. We need to find who has done this and bring them to justice.β

A hunt has been launched for a sadistic pet owner who filmed himself feeding a kitten to a python.
The vile video, entitled Python Christmas, shows a man in his 20s carrying the kitten called Jasmine into a bedroom in a Santa hat and then placed on a bed.
Lurking half-hidden under a pillow lay a yellow Burmese python, which can grow up to 19ft long and is one of the largest snakes in the world.
Killer: A yellow Burmese python which can grow as long as 19ft and squeezes its prey to death
Evil: The callous thug carries the kitten in a Santa hat to the bed where he appears to play with it
The bait: The kitten is distracted and moments later the python pounces and wraps its coils around its prey
Jasmine is seen slowly walking across the bed until the thug distracts her and she fatally turns her back on the danger.
The snake pounces, wrapping the kitten in its coils as it squeezes the life out of the playful animal.
Once the kitten's tail stops moving the snake swallows her whole β head first. Its cries of agony are drowned out by the Christmas song Little Drummer Boy playing in the background of the video.
At the end of the seven-minute footage there is a chillingly threat of more 'feeding videos'. It was posted on a site called Flix from an account registered in Islington, north London.

If caught, the sicko faces six months' jail and a Β£20,000 fine for causing unnecessary suffering under the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

An RSPCA spokeswoman said: 'There is no excuse for feeding a live cat to a python.'
Vet Pete Wedderburn told the Sun: 'The kitten is probably no older than four months. It has no hiding place and can't get away. These are the actions of a sadistic human being.'

In his videos Alexey Vedula showed how he was killing dogs and little puppies in different extremely cruel ways.
Alexey was throwing puppies on the railway and watching trains run over their little bodies. This man cut off their tails and paws, ripped up their stomachs and pulled out their eyes.

A priest in Mosta had the shock of his life when he found a dead puppy nailed to a wooden cross, hanging upside down on the front door of a vacant house.
The horrific discovery was made yesterday morning along Mostaβs Main Street. Police said an object symbolising a halo was also found on the dogβs head.
Whoever did the macabre act also left a note, claiming that "what the dog had gone through is nothing to what [he] is enduring."
As a police investigation is ongoing, the Animal Welfare department's coordinator Janice Chetcuti has appealed to anyone who has information about the case to come forward.
Despite the harsher penalties that have been introduced against abusers, there seems to be no end to animal abuse. Only last month, a boxer dog was discovered wrapped up in a black rubbish bag and thrown away in a skip.
Earlier this year, the case of the dog Star made international headlines after the dog was found buried alive up to her snout. Star had been shot in the head and sadly died 3 weeks later xxx

A distraught dog owner today told of the horrifying moment her beloved pet was mauled to death in front of her.
Miss Greenard's injury following an attack by a Japanese Akita.
Lisa Greenard has been left in shock after witnessing the fatal assault on two-year-old Jack Russell Enrique by a Japanese Akita.
The 32-year-old required hospital treatment on cuts to her hands and wrists, which have caused nerve damage, as she desperately tried to pull her pet from the attacker.
Miss Greenard, of Woodbridge Road, Ipswich, has been signed off from work with acute distress.
βHe was my only pet and Iβve had him from a puppy β my world has just been shattered. I was absolutely devastated.
Lisa Greenard is still in shock after seeing her beloved pet dog mauled to death by an Akita.
βI havenβt been able to sleep properly because the noise my dog made keeps running through my head β that awful noise, it will stay with me forever.β
The incident took place last Sunday in Palmerston Road as Miss Greenard took Enrique for a walk.
She said: βThis dog just came from nowhere, crushed Enriqueβs rib cage and punctured his lung.
βI tried to save him but he bit my hand. I wish I hadnβt taken him that way. I feel so guilty β I canβt get over it.β
Despite Miss Greenardβs ordeal she has claimed that police have told her they are unable to take any action against the owner of the dog because they donβt think a crime has been committed.
βI donβt think thatβs fair because I did what any dog owner would do which is protect their dog,β she said. βNow I have a life-long scar on my right hand which will remind me of it every day.β
However police have said no decision has yet been made yet.
A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said: βThe event is still open which indicates we will look at it to see what the full situation is.β
Miss Greenard, who is a site secretary with Longcross construction, said she has received support from colleagues since the attack.
βMy work have been brilliant,β she said.
βTheyβve sent me a few flowers and one of them said they would buy me a dog when Iβm ready β I think that would be a healer.β
The Evening Star tried to contact the Japanese Akitaβs owner, but they were unavailable for comment.

He has been named Gideon meaning hero and warrior, and the AHS reports he was transferred to a specialist where he is now being treated. Gideon's wounds are serious, and his condition is classified as grave although Gideon's breathing was easier this morning, and he reportedly was even able to lift his head.
He was made to fight then dumped by the roadside, poor boy, is now at Rainbow Bridge and at peace. Look at his poor face, there has been lots of comments left on FB about his eyes and that he has given up. I cry every time I see this picture.

Ukraine and Poland won the bid to host the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship. Government officials knew that major preparations needed to be arranged in the Ukraine in order to accomodate the thousands of people that attend the tournanment every year, but citizens were not aware that part of the preparation would include slaughtering stray animals.
For years, animal activists in Ukraine have been protesting against the inhumane practices used to solve the stray animal problem. But their pleas have virtually gone unheard. And with the football tournamnent rapidly appraching, things have taken a turn for the worse.
Stray dogs and cats were previously killed using an illegal poison called ditiline. The strays are shot with the poison and their respiratory muscles are paralyzed. In other words, their lungs freeze, collapse and fail to function. Now, the shootings have merely become the means to an end.
Ukraine has made the strays a problem of urgency because of the tournament. According to authorities, they are now using a βmore modern, environmentally safeβ way of taking care of this problem. After the strays are captured, they are taken to a mobile crematorium. Essentially, the animals are thrown into a 900 degree oven and burned alive.
Ukranian animal rights activists have been protesting this practice for more than a year, and operations director of the UEFA, Martin Kallen, has publicly said that he does not approve of any methods of animal control that constitute animaly cruelty. However, nothing has been done to investigate the burnings. In fact, less than a week ago, UEFA president Michel Platini visited the Ukraine and said he was pleased with Ukraineβs progress.
Animal Activists in Ukraine are furious that nothing is being done about these mass animal killings. Foreign fans are trying to mobilize and boycott Ukraineβs involvment in the tournament, but no moves have been made to do so. Activists are desperately trying to save the stray dogs and cats of the Ukraine.

Remembering Sirius, Only Police Dog to Perish During September 11 Terrorist Attacks
On the morning of September 11, 2001, four and a half year-old Sirius and his K9 handler, Officer David Lim, were in the basement of Tower Two at their station, states a website dedicated to Sirius, Novareinna.com. Suddenly, there was an explosion that sounded like a bomb. Thinking it would be better to work alone, Officer Lim secured Sirius in the safest place he could think of -- his crate -- and told his canine partner, "I'll be back to get you." But Officer Lim became trapped in the falling debris of Tower One and couldn't return to his partner. Sirius was killed when Tower Two fell. His remains were located in the debris on January 22, 2002.
Sirius was buried with full police honors, states Novareinna.com. Officer Lim, who was eventually rescued and survived the devastating attack, carried the remains of his canine partner during the funeral procession.

A father is facing up to seven years in jail after being found guilty of inflicting mental cruelty on his son when he witnessed him kick the family's pet dog to death.
Michael Tessmer, 54, was arrested after his 11-year-old son wrote on a school paper: 'My dad's a killer'.
The boy suffered nightmares and had flashbacks of the day he saw the family's three- year-old Dog, Zorro,( Similar to the dog in this picture) repeatedly kicked at his home in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
Prosecutors said Tessmer, who was also convicted for animal cruelty, had lost his temper when the dog urinated inside the house in February 2009.
He kicked Zorro up to ten times, and the little dog died a day later from massive bleeding caused by blunt force trauma, vets said.
During her closing argument, Assistant District Attorney Michele W. Hulgaard urged the jury to find Tessmer guilty on both charges.
She said he was an angry man who 'kicked and kicked and kicked' the dog, showing the children his 'true nature', the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel reports.
Mrs Hulgaard said he intended to hurt the dog and 'did a good job of it' because Zorro died. She said: 'You don't kick a dog to show love.'
Tessmer's son and seven-year-old daughter witnessed the violence.
But the dog's death only came to the attention of authorities after the boy drew a picture and wrote 'my dad is a killer; on an an after-school childcare program sheet.
He suffered nightmares after the incident and was too scared to sleep alone. In video testimony at the trial, the two children described how they watched their father kick the dog then shove a paper towel he used to wipe up urine in its face.
Tessmer was charged with mental cruelty to a child and mistreatment of an animal.
He claimed he had only kicked the dog once or twice and did not intend to cause it excessive pain and suffering.

His defence lawyer, Daniel Fay, suggested rat poison could have been responsible for the dog's sudden death because it was consistent with the haemorrhages he suffered.
Mr Fay said the dog did not have 'one broken bone, not a chipped tooth... not even a cut' from being kicked.
A jury found Tessmer guilty on both charges and he faces up to seven years for the mental cruelty and 18 months for the mistreatment of animals.

Bantin & Kingman Universal Ltd (B&K) has appealed to the UK's Planning Inspectorate against its rejected application to build a replacement beagle breeding facility to supply dogs for research.
In June, letters of objection from the BUAV, other animal groups, and thousands of people from Yorkshire, and the rest of the UK flooded in to the East Riding Council Planning Committee to oppose B&K's application, which was subsequently rejected.
There are many reasons why B&K's appeal should be rejected by the Planning Inspectorate too. Please help BUAV ensure that B&K's plans to build a breeding farm supplying beagles for research do not go ahead.
Research on dogs is highly controversial, for both ethical and scientific reasons. Great suffering and cruelty is intrinsic in the breeding and use of dogs in research. This is in addition to distress caused by the confined and unnatural conditions in which the dogs spend their whole lives. B&K's application states that the dogs will have no outdoor access - at no point in their short lives will they be able to experience fresh air or indulge natural behaviour like smelling grass.
In 2010, 5,782 experiments were carried out on 3,727 dogs in the UK. Dogs in British laboratories are largely used in poisoning tests both for human and veterinary drugs, as well as for agricultural chemicals. Dogs can have substances dripped into their eyes, be fed agrochemicals, or force fed chemicals and drugs in capsules or via plastic tubes inserted through their mouths, directly into their stomach. Some experiments involve rubbing a test substance into exposed skin, as well as infusion studies where the dogs are strapped into a harness for hours at a time while substances are pumped directly into their bloodstream. Animals can suffer adverse effects that result in vomiting, diarrhoea, weight loss, lethargy and organ failure. Some dogs may become so ill that they either die or have to be euthanised on welfare grounds. Those who survive are killed at the end of the text and their bodies dissected.

HARTFORD, CT β Kenway's owner cared enough to put a collar on him, but apparently not enough to give him the food he needed.
By the time Hartford Animal Control officer Sherry DeGenova found the small dog near the Charter Oak area earlier this week, he was hypothermic and emaciated and didnβt have the strength to stand. She rushed him to a vet clinic in Windsor, where she and staff wrapped him in blankets and took all measures to try to save him.
DeGenova named the dog Kenway because it means "brave warrior."
βKenwayβs body temperature never registered,β she said yesterday. βHe was swarmed over by loving, caring people. They worked on getting him warm and dry. We decided we had to give him a chance.β
βI held his little head in my hands, and I looked at him and said, βFight!β But Kenway was just too weak, and he lost his battle and died. He didnβt have the strength.β

On the 11th July 2011 within a Kunming Panlong District neighborhood, the four kittens of an adopted stray cat were abused to death. According to the family that adopted the stray cat, on the morning of the 11th when they heard the catβs tragic cries, they rushed downstairs to discover this stray catβs four kittens abused to death, and even placed in front of the mother cat. The kittensβ bodies were covered with bullet holes, with blood all over. One of the kittens had its neck tied with a rope and elongated, its chest cut open, heart exposed, while the other three kittensβ heads were stepped on. According to this journalistβs observation, the bullet holes on the kittenβs bodies were caused by a metal toy gun. It is reckoned that during the night of the 10th, someone used a toy gun to beat the kitten black and blue, so that it was unable to escape, before continuing to abuse/mutilate it to death, and intentionally put them beside the mother cat.

An investigation has begun into the deaths of the dogs, left in a car at a police training centre in Kent.
A Dogs Trust spokeswoman said nobody should leave their dog in a vehicle, particularly during a heatwave.
She added: "It can take just 20 minutes for a dog to die and temperatures can reach over 40 degrees in some vehicles."

Vets had hoped she was on the road to recovery after she was saved more than two weeks ago.
But today it was revealed that Star had lost her fight for life after she suffered an acute inflammation of the pancreas.

News of her death came less than 24 hours after hundreds of people on Malta took part in a demonstration against animal cruelty - the biggest-ever such protest there.
Just last Saturday the dog spent a few hours with new would-be owners to get used to them and her new surroundings.
But she then fell ill and was returned to a welfare centre.
After she was first found Star was rushed to an animal hospital on Malta where vets removed the pellets from her skull.

Her plight caused outrage on the Mediterranean holiday isle.
The attacker has not been found and protesters have demanded Malta's maximum jail term for animal cruelty of just one year is increased.
Thousands have joined a Facebook page to support Star - and to exchange information to find the culprit.
Another 1,000 people have also signed an online petition to raise funds to meet Star's vet bills.
The dog was found after animal welfare officers heard whimpering while probing another cruelty case outside the city of Birzebbuga.

This darling little Cat,s story touched me so deeply and i know it will everyone who reads this too. I have no idea how this precious soul got into such a terrible state, but he was a true survivor to the very end.
I dont know if this beautiful soul had ever expierenced love in his life but he
finally got to feel it in the few precious minutes he had left. A story of Loneliness and just wanting to be Loved and accepted, and proof of how pure an Animals heart really is. Beauty should never be judged from the outside, it comes from within the soul.....This is the touching story of Ugly the Cat and a person who opened their heart when he needed someone the most.........
Everyone in the apartment complex where I lived knew who Ugly was. Ugly was the resident tomcat. Ugly loved three things in this world: fighting, eating garbage, and shall we say, love.
The combination of these things combined with a life spent outside had their effect on Ugly. To start with, he had only one eye and where the other should have been was a hole. He was also missing his ear on the same side, his left foot appeared to have been badly broken at one time, and had healed at an unnatural angle, making him look like he was always turning the corner.
Ugly would have been a dark gray tabby, striped type, except for the sores covering his head, neck and even his shoulders. Every time someone saw Ugly there was the same reaction. "That's one UGLY cat!!!β
All the children were warned not to touch him, the adults threw rocks at him, hosed him down, squirted him when he tried to come in their homes, or shut his paws in the door when he would not leave.
Ugly always had the same reaction. If you turned the hose on him, he would stand there, getting soaked until you gave up and quit. If you threw things at him, he would curl his lanky body around your feet in forgiveness. Whenever he spied children, he would come running, meowing frantically and bump his head against their hands, begging for their love. If you picked him up he would immediately begin suckling on your shirt, earrings, whatever he could find.
One day Ugly shared his love with the neighbor's huskies. They did not respond kindly, and Ugly was badly mauled. From my apartment I could hear his screams, and I tried to rush to his aid. By the time I got to where he was laying, it was apparent Ugly's sad life was almost at an end.
Ugly lay in a wet circle, his back legs and lower back twisted grossly out of shape, a gaping tear in the white strip of fur that ran down his front. As I picked him up and tried to carry him home, I could hear him wheezing and gasping, and could feel him struggling. I must be hurting him terribly, I thought.
Then I felt a familiar tugging, sucking sensation on my ear - Ugly, in so much pain, suffering and obviously dying, was trying to suckle my ear. I pulled him closer to me, and he bumped the palm of my hand with his head, then he turned one golden eye towards me, and I could hear the distinct sound of purring. Even in the greatest pain, that ugly battled scarred cat was asking only for a little affection, perhaps some compassion.
At that moment I thought Ugly was the most beautiful, loving creature I had ever seen. Never once did he try to bite or scratch me, try to get away from me, or struggle in any way. Ugly just looked up at me completely trusting in me to relieve his pain.
Ugly died in my arms before I could get inside, but I sat and held him for a long time afterwards, thinking about how one scarred, deformed little stray could so alter my opinion about what it means to have true pureness of spirit, to love so totally and truly. Ugly taught me more about giving and compassion than a thousand books, lectures, or talk show specials ever could, and for that I will always be thankful .
He had been scarred on the outside, but I was scarred on the inside, and it was time for me to move on and learn to love truly and deeply. To give my total to those I cared for.
Many people want to be richer, more successful, well liked, beautiful, but for me, I will always try to be Ugly.

DOG POISONED WITH ANTIFREEZE Roseburg, OR (US) Friday 6th May 2011
A Roseburg couple's dog is dead, and their neighbor has been charged with animal abuse.
Now, the Saddle Butte Mobile Manor community is coming together in outrage.
Debora Ballard and her husband got their dog Mocha when she was just a puppy. "She was an ornery little thing when she was born, and then she turned out to be a really good dog," said Ballard. "She was an excellent dog."
They say Mocha was a sweet, caring dog who was full of life. That is, until her life was taken from her.
Mocha started to get sick last Friday, and when she hadn't gotten better by Saturday, Ballard took her to Dr. Blair Bailey's vet clinic.
Doctor Bailey said that it was obvious what was hurting the dog: antifreeze poisoning.
Mocha's death was not an easy one. "It causes their kidneys to go into total kidney failure, kidney shut down, and they pass away in a horrible, horrible death," he said. "It's probably one of the most cruel forms of poison out there."
When Debora found out about the antifreeze, she was confused - until she got some shocking news from her husband: he had found the antifreeze in open containers in their neighbor's yard.
Debora was in disbelief. "What kind of crazy type of person would do such a heinous thing? It's inhumane."
Ballard took some pictures of the antifreeze, as well as what appears to be neighbor Bernard Dougherty's wife Mitzy cleaning up the containers.
Debora said that there were two milk jugs on the Dougherty's lawn with the lids cut off and filled with what looked like antifreeze. One of them appeared to have tuna fish inside of it.
Ballard said that she thinks it was deliberate. "It's sad," she said, "it's sad that any animal has to suffer for someone's ignorance. They're just ignorant people. They have no heart. They're just evil."
Debora and several of her neighbors are outraged, and they want the couple to pay.
Andrea Hughes, a nearby resident told KPIC News, "They need to be shown that what they did was very, very wrong. Jail time, fine, whatever it takes to get it in their head that what they was not OK, and this entire neighborhood is not OK with it."
KPIC News went to the Dougherty's home to get their side of the story. Several members of the community were there and told the couple how they felt.
The Doughertys said they haven't done anything wrong. Someone in the crowd asked Bernard, "Sir, do you feel like you owe someone an apology for the dog dying?"
He replied, "Absolutely not. Under no circumstances."
A Douglas County Animal Control officer cited Bernard Dougherty for Animal Abuse I. The charge alleges he caused the death of an animal in a cruel way. The charge carries a possible jail sentence and fine.
Daugherty said he's looking forward to sorting the matter out in court.
Whether or not he is guilty of animal cruelty, Mocha is still dead, and Debora is still mourning the loss of her beloved dog.

We are appealing for information after a young neglected foal who had collapsed in a field in desperate need of veterinary help was tied to a car and dragged around the field, before being buried alive.
We received a call about the colt (young male horse) seen collapsed by the gate of a field in Thameside in Chertsey, Surrey, at 9.50am on Wednesday, 26 January.
But when RSPCA Inspector Nicky Thorne arrived at the field near Chertsey lock only 20 minutes later, there appeared to be no sign of a sick pony in the field, only some other equines.
A witness said the foal was now down at the other end of the field after two people had driven onto the land in a small black car.
They had tied the animal's front legs together with a strap, attached the strap to the car and dragged the foal some 600 yards, leaving him out of sight of the road.
A tarpaulin had been thrown over the top of the foal, which had then been covered with rocks and stones so no one could see him die.
'Nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to see'
Inspector Thorne said:
When I heard about the foal being dragged I expected to see a dead body, but nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to see, even after years in this job.
There was a tarpaulin which was covered in logs and stones, and as I pulled it back there was a pony, weak, barely alive and terrified, just dumped under a plastic sheet and left to die in the dark with his front legs strapped together and his head twisted around over his back where it had flopped as he was dragged, and he was too weak to move it back to a comfortable position himself.
Despite a valiant effort to save him, the foal sadly died
After making the native type pony as comfortable as possible by keeping him warm and dry with blankets, Nicky sat cradling his head in her arms and reassuring him until reinforcements arrived.
The RSPCA and the fire service carried the young black-and-white colt, named Babe by RSPCA officers because he was so young and sweet, to a horse lorry and he was taken to nearby veterinary stables for treatment.
But sadly, despite this valiant effort to save the young pony, he could hang on no longer and he died soon after he arrived there.
A post mortem examination of the six-month-old pony revealed he had bad diarrhoea and was dehydrated and underweight with a very heavy worm problem.
Who owned this foal?
Now we are appealing for information in a bid to find the person or people responsible for the foal, who was in the field for several weeks prior to his death.
Inspector Thorne said:
When you do a job like this you see some horrendous things, but I cannot even try to comprehend the terror and pain that poor creature must have endured being dragged across the field, covered over and left in the darkness, his weak body tied up and twisted.
Worse still, we have good reason to believe that had the foal not been moved, he would probably still be alive now as the shock and trauma would have made his condition much worse.
And the poor condition that caused his collapse in large part was as a result of worms, which can be prevented for as little as Β£5 with a product which is available in most agricultural stores.
Can you help?
We want to hear from anyone with information about this incident, especially in relation to the two people who were seen from a distance dragging the pony behind a small black car.
We are also keen to find out who owns the land.
Inspector Thorne said:
The field appears to have been rented and lots of different people have kept their horses and ponies there so someone must know who this foal belonged to and how he came to be in such a poor state.
Under the Animal Welfare Act, those found guilty of abandoning or neglecting an animal can face a fine of up to Β£20,000 and/or six months in prison.

Fighting for Fudge β outrage as puppy is killed.
The owner of a puppy in Liverpool has been left heartbroken after Merseyside police destroyed her 5-month-old crossbreed pet. Carole Eden, 61, claims that unqualified police officers attended her home at 9.45 pm on 22nd March and informed her that her puppy βFudgeβ was a banned pit bull type.
Ms Eden says
βFudge was asleep when they arrived but woke up wagging her tail and looking for a fuss. The police officers told me she was a pit bull and they were going to seize her. I was told to sign some forms but didnβt have my glasses so went to get them. One of the officers placed a hand on my arm to stop me and informed me the forms were simply to say I wasnβt coerced.
I believed them. You are meant to trust the authorities. I believed Fudge was being seized yet half an hour after Fudge was taken I received a phone call telling me she was dead. The forms I had signed had been to agree to have Fudge destroyed. She was just 5 months old !
This has left a whole family devastated. Fudge was part of the family and my grandkids came daily to see her. The little ones played with her and the bigger ones walked her - all under supervision, as you should do with any dog. I can honestly say I havenβt seen my family as upset as this since their dad died.β
The following day Ms Eden approached Endangered Dogs Defence and Rescue who in turn contacted DDA Watch and solicitor Tina Hay from Wheldon Law. Ms Eden was advised that as Fudge was not yet fully grown and under 9 months of age, it would be impossible to accurately determine if Fudge was a banned type or not.
An independent Breed Expert was appointed to carry out an assessment on Fudge who concluded that at present, Fudge did not have the substantial number of characteristics needed to be a pit bull type. It may be that Fudge would have grown into an illegal dog however she also had many characteristics of legal breeds and we will never know what Fudge would have become.
Ms Eden has lodged a formal complaint. While it is too late for Fudge Ms Eden is fighting for a change in law and procedure to ensure this never happens again.
A petition has been set up to repeal the breed aspects of the Dangerous Dogs Act and to push for a β48 hour cooling off periodβ when a sign over disclaimer has been signed until the current law is changed. This will give owners the chance to seek independent advice and to change their minds if they wish to fight for their dogs.

βSadly this is not the first time we have been approached by owners who did not know what they were signing. Many do not fully understand what they are signing or that they can legally keep their dogs even if the dog is deemed to be a banned type. There needs to be more transparency about the options available to owners and allow those owners the time to ensure they are making the right decision.
Had a 48 hours cooling off period been in place already, Fudge would still be alive. β

There are no penalties for abusing animals on fur farms in China, which is the world's largest fur exporter, supplying more than half of the finished fur garments imported for sale in the United States. Foxes, minks, rabbits, dogs, cats, and other animals pace and shiver in outdoor wire cages, with no shelter from driving rain, freezing nights, or the scorching sun.
Mother animals, who are driven crazy from rough handling and intense confinement and have nowhere to hide while giving birth, often kill their babies after delivering litters. Disease and injuries are widespread, and animals suffering from anxiety-induced psychosis chew on their own limbs and throw themselves repeatedly against the cage bars.
Before they are skinned, animals are yanked from their cages, thrown to the ground, and bludgeoned. Undercover investigators from Swiss Animal Protection/EAST International found that many animals are still alive and struggling desperately when workers flip them onto their backs or hang them up by their legs or tails to skin them.
When they begin to cut the skin and fur from an animal's leg, the free limbs kick and writhe. Workers stomp on the necks and heads of animals who struggle too hard to allow a clean cut.
When the fur is finally peeled off over the animals' heads, their hairless, bloody bodies are thrown onto a pile of those who have gone before them. Some are still alive, breathing in ragged gasps and blinking slowly. Some of the animals' hearts are still beating five to 10 minutes after they are skinned. One investigator recorded a skinned raccoon dog on the heap of carcasses who had enough strength to lift his bloodied head and stare into the camera.
When investigators went into another animal market in southern China, they were horrified to find dogs and cats being bludgeoned, hanged, bled to death, and strangled with wire nooses so that their fur could be turned into trim and trinkets.
They found cats and dogs languishing in tiny cages, visibly exhausted. Some had been on the road for days, transported in flimsy wire-mesh cages with no food or water.
Twenty cats were forced into a single cage. Because of the cross-country transport in such deplorable conditions, the investigators were able to see dogs and cats with open wounds, dying cats and dogs inside the cages, and dead cats on top of the cages. Some animals were lethargic or frightened, and others were fighting with each other, driven insane from confinement and exposure.
Up to 8,000 animals are loaded onto each truck, with cages stacked on top of each other. Cages containing live animals are commonly tossed from the tops of the trucks onto the ground 10 feet below, shattering the legs of the animals inside them. Many of the animals still had collars on, a sign that they were once someone's beloved companion, stolen to be made into a fur coat.
This fur from China is often deliberately mislabeled as fur from other species and is exported to countries throughout the world to be sold to unsuspecting customers in retail stores. Since China supplies more than half of the finished fur garments imported for sale in the United States and since dog and cat fur is often mislabeled, if you're buying fur, there's no way to tell whose skin you're wearing, including that of a dog or cat

White Dog Neglected By Irresponsible Owner
While we were driving home after our tea break, my wife and I spotted this unfortunate white hairless doggie. He was standing by the roadside, very skinny and has mange problem. I made a 'U' turn and parked my car across the road, got out from the car and walked towards this dog with food and water. He got a collar and a license so obviously he has a home. I am very upset with the owner on how he neglected his companion animal roaming on street without medical attention and food! Since the doggie was spotted in front of a house, I walked up and asked the owner to find out more.
At first I thought the doggie belongs to the family but no, the doggie actually belongs to the other neighbor. So I started digging more about why, how and since when this has happened. She told us the doggie has been kicked out from the house long time ago. She even told me it is useless to talk to them ( the owner ). I just wish our animal law in Malaysia is strict enough to put all these irresponsible owners and abusers behind jail for good.
I have 2 options here, one is to bring this doggie to local shelter where euthanasia is probably be carried out or on the other hand, I will bring him to my vet and cure him and after that find him a good home. Mmm....I will stick with number 2 if you ask me. Hopefully he will be there tomorrow. What surprise me more is why couldn't this lady that I talked to show some compassion or at least get some medicine for this doggie, I just don't understand, you know, she has a dog inside her house and she sees this cruelty and suffering infront of her everyday and do nothing about it.

Picked up Joseph at 4 pm today and we headed to the street to locate him. Since he was not there, we asked one of the neighbors and found out he might be roaming behind the residential area. We drove here and there but with no luck finding him. After a few rounds, from a distance we saw a dog sniffing on something, I couldn't see what it was as my vision was covered by cars around that area. We drove slowly towards the dog and with shock and sad at the same time, we saw the white dog lying there not moving at all. We knew instantly he has gone and the worst part is NOBODY cares! Nobody, I mean he collapsed at the side of the main entrance and I am pretty sure there must be lot of cars go in and out, but nobody even bothered. His body has turn cold and stiff.
We stayed there for a while and Joseph made a call to the council department asking them tocome and collect the carcass. The two council workers in yellow t-shirts in the video are not from the animal department though, they are just ordinary worker that sweep the road daily. I deliberately let them carried the carcass so that you can see how our council workers deal with carcass. The man in brown shirt is the one of the council supervisors and his team who deal with animal carcass has gone home after 5 pm, that is why the yellow t-shirt workers had to help out since they were there sweeping the road.
I feel bad and so is Joseph and Khairul not because of the council workers but because of the people who live there do nothing at all to help this suffering animal. I took a lot of photos and videos to show to my vet asking him why this could happened suddenly within a day. He said it might have been hypothermia since he has been exposing to rains yesterday and also this morning. Another reason I took photos is because tomorrow morning, I will pick up Joseph and we will be heading to dog licensing department to trace this owner and file a cruelty report against him. He has to be punished for neglecting and abuse!

A video that's been going around the internet for the past few days makes me sick!.
Apparently, the video was posted online by someone who picked up a pen-drive in a shopping mall in Malaysia containing this clip inside, all of 15 minutes and 7 seconds of it. But the video on Youtube has apparently been removed.
This sorry and skinny excuse for a human being was seen trying to 'train' the poor toy poodle named 'Sushi' to stand on its two hind legs. The moron seemed obsessed with getting the dog to stand on its two hind legs, and was strict about how Sushi must 'stand'. He repeated said in Cantonese, 'Stand Up!', 'Look Up!', 'Stand Up Straight!', '... or I'll PUNCH YOU!!!', and was asking his girlfriend who was filming, 'why his back-bone has no strength?'. The girl can be heard saying in Mandarin, 'Dear, enough, 10 minutes already', and, 'Dear, there is some blood at the mouth...'.
Repeatedly, the poor dog was punched, kicked, strangled, thrown, slammed against the wall, pulled at its leg, slapped, ABUSED. Sushi got so weak from the abuse that, even after it was thrown or sent flying after a punch or kick, it didn't bother trying to get up or run. And at one point, it fell off the small platform it was 'standing' on and was too tired to even get up or move, but instead just waited for the jerk to come back to pick him up and continue the abuse.
From his tattoos, the ring on his finger, and his plain ugliness, the infuriated netizens managed to 'human flesh' him out and tracked down the couple's identity, car license plate number, and even their Facebook profile. The SPCA in both Malaysia and Singapore were alerted to the case and the Malaysian authorities are apparently going to do something about it. I hope this won't end up fizzling out into nothing as both these countries are not known to have strong anti-animal abuse laws.
Pictures in their profile also seems to show that she now has another dog. They have pictures of Sushi as well as their other pets 'standing'. While it seems that Doreen Loo seems to be the girl involved, the identity of the guy has not been confirmed; 'Champ Alan' may or may not be the man in the video. Reports suggest that Sushi the poodle has already died. Well, I'm not surprised at all. I hope Sushi is in a better place now.

Cruel Christopher Collyer, 25, deliberately hung cute springer spaniel Charlie so his hind legs could just touch the floor.

The dog survived until his emaciated back legs collapsed and he then choked to death.
He was found hanging by his lead in a bunker in woods in Keighley, West Yorks.

Collyer was meant to take him to a farm that took in unwanted pets after his parents could no longer care for him.
The RSPCA officer who dealt with the incident said it was the "most horrifying case" he had ever seen.
But Collyer, of Morecambe, Lancs, denied cruelty, claiming he gave the pedigree dog - a birthday gift to his mother - to a woman he met while out walking Charlie.

Last month he was convicted at Bradford Magistrates' Court. The jobless dad-of-two was jailed for 24 weeks and banned from ever keeping pets again yesterday.
His parents Ian, 59, and Mandy, 47, were banned from keeping pets for three years for failing to treat the dog's chronic skin condition, and were given a community sentence.

A SICK cat killer who hacked off a moggy's tail before hanging her from a metal fence is being hunted.
The RSPCA want to track down the vile thug who tortured Ellie, two, before wedging her body between two metal spikes.
The charity has released this photograph of the lifeless black and white cat in a bid to find the person responsible.
The horror happened just yards from owner Kerrie Parker's home in Gravesend, Kent.
Miss Parker, 19, said she has been having nightmares ever since she found her.
She said: "When I looked down the alleyway and saw she was there I just stopped where I was, I couldn't move.
"It was really horrendous.
"I've no idea who did this to a defenceless little animal but whoever it is obviously sick in the head.
"Ellie was the first born kitten of my mum's cat and she was the one that was my cat.
"We have her daughter and her brother too and they've noticed she's gone missing.
"They're just moping around and are not themselves."
Last week the animal charity was forced to release pictures of two lurcher dogs after they were found hanged from a Leicestershire bridge.
Each dog was hung by the neck and thrown off either side of the bridge so that both dangled in mid-air before being discovered by a shocked motorist.
RSPCA inspector Alison Fletcher said of the latest incident: "We think that Ellie was put there deliberately.
"She had no other injuries, apart from her tail being cut off.

A horrified neighbor witnessed three children in high spirits as they kicked a puppy to death in a rural housing estate in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal.
The man, who identified himself as 'Paul' to the Irish Independent, said he could not believe what he was seeing as he drove into the estate on Thursday morning.
"I could see a group of very small children kicking something that wasn't a football.
"As I approached them I could see it was a small pup. They were kicking and jumping on its head," the man told a Highland Radio show on Friday.
When he returned to the scene after parking his car, the dog was dead and the children were laughing and joking. He said the youngest child was about five years of age and the oldest was around 11 years.
"They were almost thrilled to bits that they had kicked this pup to death and stamped on its head," said Paul.
"They were laughing and slapping each other on the back.
"The dog's head was crushed and there was quite a pool of blood. It turned my stomach, doing that to an animal at that age. What are they going to be like when they are older?"
Paul said he called the police to report the incident with a picture in hand, but was not asked to file a complaint.
"I showed the picture to the guard but he looked at me with a look of, 'What do you want me to do?' I wasn't even asked my name," he said.
Sean McClafferty, a spokesman for the Donegal Pet Rescue, an animal welfare group, has requested an urgent meeting with the superintendent at Letterkenny Garda Station to discuss the chilling incident.
"The guard at the desk is duty bound to take all the details of the crime because this is a crime," said McClafferty.
"It is extremely disturbing that children would do that but we are living in an age where cruelty to animals doesn't seem to matter."

Eight swans have been found shot dead in what a wildlife rescue group described as "one of the worst incidents" it had ever attended.
They were killed with an airgun and one of the swans must have "suffered terribly" after it was shot three times, said animal charity Secret World.
The slaughtered birds were found by a passer-by in a field on West Ham road out of Blackford in Somerset. The shooting is believed to have happened early on Monday morning.

The charity's founder Pauline Kidner said: "It is hard to believe anyone would do such a callous thing.
"The only thing that we had hoped was that death would have been fairly instantaneous as they all appeared to have been killed by someone who was quite a good marksman, but the X-rays told us otherwise. One of the swans had been shot three times and must have suffered terribly.
"A lot of swans foraging on crops can cause a lot of damage, but there is no excuse for such cruelty.
"What makes matters worse is that some of the swans may well have been ones that we worked so hard to save from the ice over the Christmas period when we rescued 21 swans from the ice, and had others brought into us."
A caller told the East Huntspill-based charity three dead swans were lying in a field.
Secret World's animal care manager Sara Cowen found the dead bodies and an injured swan that made its escape. The injured swan was caught and is now recovering at the centre.
Secret World is appealing to anyone with information about the incident to phone on 01278 783250 or to notify the police. They are also appealing to anyone finding further swans that have been shot to report the incident.

Pack of 100 huskies shot and knifed to death before being tossed in a mass grave by tour operator trying to save money

One hundred huskies were slaughtered and dumped in a mass grave after a dogsled tour company no longer needed them.
The dogs were shot or had their throats slit, while those that proved hard to kill had to be βwrestled to the ground and stood onβ before they could be shot in the head.
The killings came to light when the employee who carried out the cull was given compensation for post-traumatic stress disorder in Canada.
'We don't kill cows like that': The huskies were killed and thrown into a mass grave after bookings dropped. The firm pictured was not involved.
By the end of the slaughter he was said to be killing dogs βin a hazeβ and was covered in blood.
The incident took place at Howling Dog Tours in Whistler, British Columbia, where tourists would pay around Β£200 for a three-hour sled ride through the valleys surrounding the town.
The two-person sleds are pulled by six dogs. But the company found it had too many animals when bookings fell following the end of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
The details of the killings were revealed in documents from the local health and safety body, which awarded the employee β who has not been named β undisclosed compensation for stress.
The man said he was told to cull 100 of his 300 dogs after a local vet refused to destroy healthy animals, and he could not find new homes for them.
'Told to cut costs': the company had expected a surge in bookings after the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and Whistler resort, pictured.
Previously he had put down sick dogs by taking them into the woods, giving them a meal and shooting them. But the size of the cull in April 2010 meant he had to kill the animals in full view of other dogs.
By the time he had shot his 15th husky, he noticed the dogs were βexperiencing anxiety and stressβ, the documents revealed.
At one point the man shot but failed to kill a husky called Suzie β the mother of his own pet dog. βHe had to chase Suzie through the yard because the horrific noise she made when wounded caused him to drop the leash,β the report said.
When he managed to kill Suzie, he accidentally shot another husky which had not been due to be killed, but had to be put down.
βHe also had to perform what he described as βexecution styleβ killings where he wrestled the dogs to the ground and stood on them with one foot to shoot them.β
The report added: βHe described a guttural sound he had never heard before from the dogs and fear in their eyes.β
It also told how he had run out of ammunition when he was attacked by an injured animal, so had to use a knife to kill it.
HUSKY FACT FILE

βHis memory of the final 15 dogs is hazy,β the documents added. βSome he shot cleanly, others he had to chase. In some cases it was easier to get behind the dogs and slit their throats.β
Animal welfare campaigners described the slaughter as sickening.
Marcie Moriarty, of British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said: βThere arenβt words to really describe some of the ways these dogs died.β
She added: βSlaughterhouses have very strict rules for how supposed culling takes place. This violated every one of them.β
Graham Aldcroft, of Outdoor Adventures, the parent company of the dogsled firm, said: βWhile we were aware of the relocation and euthanisation of dogs at Howling Dog Tours, we were completely unaware of the details.β
Outdoor Adventures took over full control of the Whistler tour firm in May. It is now company policy that animals are put down by a vet.
Police intend to unearth the mass grave later in the year when the ground is no longer frozen.

Barechested commandos brandishing knives take turns to charge towards a live dog, tied and spreadeagled between vertical poles. They slash and stab the helpless, yelping animal until it dies. Then, in a grotesque act of military machismo, the soldiers eat the dog's heart and drink its blood.
The troops belong to the Peruvian army and the slaughter of the dog is the climax of a series of 'bravery tests' to train them to be ruthless killers.
The barbaric ritual has been uncovered by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), a British charity which last night expressed disgust at the cruelty.
Jonathan Owen, a spokesman for the charity, said: "This is one of the worst cases of animal cruelty we have ever come across. Unlike most other forms of animal abuse, there is no commercial motive behind this.
"It is pure, unadulterated cruelty. They are using an animal that cannot defend itself to practise killing. They call it war games but this game always ends in the animal's death."
The cruelty was recorded by a cameraman who was invited to film the army's Otorongo Command Group 125, near Lima, the Peruvian capital. Shocked by what he saw, the cameraman passed the video to the WSPA.
The film shows the soldiers doing a number of other tests before they attack the dog. These include running through a ring of fire, and standing in a circle throwing a grenade to each other before one of them tosses it into the middle and they all dive to the ground as it explodes.
For the final challenge the soldiers run 20 yards towards the suspended dog, clutching an attack knife with an eight-inch blade. Some slash the animal just once; the more enthusiastic stab it repeatedly.
The mongrel can move its head but is otherwise utterly defenceless. It can only scream as the knives rip through its skin. Worse, the dog is a camp pet that belongs to the soldiers, an extra detail to ensure that these killers are rendered truly heartless, unhindered by emotion or sentiment.
Once the animal is dead and the soldiers have completed the test, they put their hands into the open wounds, pull out the innards and heart, tear them up and eat them.
The aim is to turn them into men who are not merely untroubled by the sight of blood, but positively relish it.
The brutal ritual ends with one of the soldiers putting the dog around his neck like a victory laurel and leading the troop on a 'lap of honour' around the training ground.
Maj-Gen Peter Davies, the WSPA's director general, said: "There is no justification for such brutal training methods. Inflicting great suffering on a helpless animal is unnecessary, unacceptable and has no place in any civilised armed force."
The Peruvian government admits that live dogs have been used in military training but claims that the practice has been banned since August. A ministry of defence spokesman says that the exercise shown on the video took place before the ban was introduced.
"The exercises shown on the video are currently strictly forbidden in all Peruvian military institutions," the spokesman says. "At present no animals are being used in exercises carried out during military training."
However, the WSPA believes the practice is still continuing. Gerardo Huertas, the society's Latin America regional director, said: "Abuse of animals by the military has been going on in Peru for decades and we believe that it is also happening in other countries in Central and South America and elsewhere.
"These images of young soldiers mutilating dogs until they die are grotesque, a chilling reminder that we have to redouble our efforts to fight against animal crimes all over the world.
"People who are trained to protect the civil, religious or democratic acts of a nation should never be required to behave in such a way. It's frightening to think what kind of people those soldiers will be when they come out of the army."
Armando Lecaros-de-Cossio, Peru's ambassador to Britain, said that he was shocked by the video. "No civilised person could condone what is happening in that video," he said. Mr Lecaros-de-Cossio described himself as "an animal-lover."
He had kept dogs for many years and was about to buy one for his 11-year-old daughter Louise.
"Louise has been begging for a puppy from Scottie [a colleague's golden retriever] and we hope that will be happening shortly. She adores dogs," he said.
The Peruvian army is currently being investigated in connection with atrocities committed during 20 years of fighting between security forces, civilians and the brutal Sendero Luminoso - Shining Path - guerrillas.
Investigators belonging to a "Truth Commission" have exhumed the bodies of dozens of villagers said to have been massacred by government troops and guerrillas between 1980 and 2000.
The armed forces have so far failed to respond to the commission's inquiries, even though 13,000 people have testified.

Dog reportedly dragged to death in Monument, Colorado.
Officials at the Colorado National Monument today are investigating a case in which someone dragged a dog to death this morning up Rim Rock Drive.
Officials say tracks in the snow indicate the dog was walking, running and then dragged beside the side of a vehicle for about three miles before the animal with a rope around its neck was dumped by the first tunnel from the Monumentβs west entrance.
The dog was an adult male shepherd mix and was found by Monument employees at about 4:30 a.m.
Monument officials have set up a tip line to report the perpetrator. Anyone with information should call 970-712-2798. Callers will remain anonymous.

WHAT A HEARTLESS PIECE OF TRASH!
On January 16, 20-year-old Tella Bush of Gary, IN, called the Humane Society of Northwest Indiana to pick up a dead dog. Humane Society director, Betty Clayton and another employee went to the 602 Illinois St. address and found the dog snow-covered and frozen inside its makeshift doghouse.
Bush told Clayton that she had only let the dog out the night before and when she called, the one-year-old male pitbull didnβt come so she left it out there. Temps reached 15 degrees below zero overnight.
What doesnβt ring true about this story is that when Clayton found the dog, it was chained to a tree next to the doghouse which was nothing more than a wire crate with some wood slapped on the sides and a little hay on the snow covered ground, there was no food or water.
And to make matters worse, the dog was severely emaciated. A vet who examined the frozen dog found that it was about 25 lbs underweight and βa dog with this amount of extreme weight loss is a very likely candidate for death by starvation. The extreme cold weather we are experiencing would increase the chances of this dog not surviving.β
And for her cruel sentence of death to this poor innocent creature, Bush was charged only with misdemeanor animal cruelty and faces only 180 days in jail and $1000 fine. Where is the justice in that even if she was sentenced to the max which almost never happens?? This dog died a cruel death, prolonged suffering from starvation then freezing in temperature well below zero. Even a pitbull in top shape would not be able to survive those conditions, few dogs would without adequate shelter and not only did this dog not have adequate shelter, he didnβt even have any bodily reserves to call upon. What a disgrace! This was nothing short of torture!
When will the punishment ever fit the crime? When will we ever really see justice for the innocents that suffer at the cruel hands of the scum of the earth??

SABIE, South Africa - A defenseless dog was subjected to merciless mutilation when her supposed "best friend" chopped off her back legs and cruelly left her in that critically injured state for more than a week.
"She was stealing; now that she can't walk so she can't steal anymore," said the owner. He simply shrugged his shoulders when he was confronted. According to the remorseless man, he wanted to teach his dog a lesson so he cut her back legs off with a blunt axe.
When help finally arrived after a concerned neighbour in the informal settlement of "Fok-Fok" stating they had seen an injured dog, the poor skeleton-of-a-dog was in severe pain and shock, and displayed absolutely no reaction when she was approached. The black Africanis female dog was lying outside when the disorientated animal was removed from the premises.
When questioned why the owner chopped off her legs, his response was "ask the dog". It is an absolute horrific act of animal cruelty as the dog was lying and whimpering in pain for more than a week with her owner ignoring her. The owner also commented "see, now, I have no more problems with her". He also helped loading his other dog into the official vehicle himself which was taken to a temporary shelter.
The injured dog was taken to a veterinarian who was appalled at what he saw. "She was totally dehydrated and in shock and septicemia was already taking place - one could smell the flesh rotting." He said she was in severe pain and it was decided mercifully to put her out of her misery.
"But the worst was that she was totally dejected and had simply resigned herself to the fact that she was going to die, that this was her lot in life," The veterinarian was clearly emotional as he added that the dog "simply stared at him".
Her owner never gave her a name, so the rescuer named her Babyface.
The incident was reported to the police and the owner will be prosecuted and charged with animal cruelty under the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962.

A heartless yob who stole a pensioner's dog days before it was found dead after being thrown 40ft from a viaduct has been jailed.
Gary Marshman, 27, was caught on CCTV untying 12-year-old Jess from outside a supermarket where owner Ron Bisby was shopping.
Mr Bisby, 78, initially thought the border collie had slipped her lead and would make her own way home after disappearing on January 15 last year.
But after an extensive search by police and the members of the public, the dog was discovered dead in the River Spend.
Her collar and lead were found in bushes nearby.
A post mortem revealed that Jess had suffered consistent with falling from a 'significant height'.
Mr Bisby and his wife Enid, 71, of Cleckheaton, west Yorkshire, have been left traumatised by the loss of their beloved pet.
Marshman, who has a string of previous convictions including possession of a firearm and burglary, was convicted last month of stealing Jess.
He refused to say whether he threw Jess to her death.
Sentencing Marshman to 26 weeks at Dewsbury Crown Court yesterday, chairman Vince Reynolds said: 'The offence is so serious that only a custodial sentence is justified.
'This offence has been taken against vulnerable victims.'
Mr Reynolds told the court that he was also taking into account the psychological impact and stress the Bisbys suffered.
Marshman, from Bradford, was caught by Tesco's security cameras going in and out of the store in Cleckheaton, when Jess was tied outside.
CCTV then tracked him going through the car park with Jess on a lead.
He is then seen returning to a bail hostel, where he had been living since leaving prison a month before.

Stephen Fox, prosecuting, said of the Bisbys: 'People their age should not have to put through this misery.'
He also read out a statement from Mr Bisby, stating: 'Due to this incident I have been unable to sleep properly, I feel numb and I miss my dog terribly.

He added: 'Nothing can detract from the fact that the Bisbys have lost their pet.'
After the hearing Mrs Bisby told how her husband could not to attend the sentencing.
She said: 'After 18 months he's only finally coming to terms with the fact Jess has gone and he didn't want it brought back to him.
'Jess was the love of our lives, so much so that we have had an artist paint a picture of her from a photograph.
'For this to happen to any dog would be terrible, but for it to happen to an old, trusting dog makes it even more upsetting.'

A TRAINEE soldier strangled a dog to death with its lead because his sister didn't want it any more, a court heard today.
Sick Stephan Graham Bullock, 23, who has been accepted into the army and is due to start training, pleaded guilty to the vile act at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court in Hampshire.
He has been banned from ever owning an animal again.
Bullock, strangled the six-year-old German shepherd-lurcher, called Alfie Moon after the EastEnders character, because his sister was unable to cope with the dog.

The hound was found half buried in a wooded area with a lead wrapped tightly around his neck, the court heard.
Veterinary evidence and a post-mortem examination showed the dog had been strangled by the lead and would have suffered considerably.
Alfie had been a rescue dog rehomed by the RSPCA Millbrook Animal Centre in Surrey.
The original adopter had passed Alfie on and eventually he came to be looked after by Bullock's sister.
But after saying she could no longer cope with the dog she asked Bullock, who was living with her at the time, to take him.
The court heard Bullock, from Basingstoke, walked the dog to a vet for help and was advised to call the RSPCA.
But instead he took him to a wooded area and strangled Alfie using his lead.
Bullock admitted it took two or three minutes of the dog whimpering before the animal went limp and died.
Bullock pleaded guilty on September 7 to failing to protect Alfie from pain, injury and suffering in contravention of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

He was given a lifetime disqualification from owning or keeping all animals and a 12-month supervision order.
He was also ordered to carry out 50 hours of unpaid community work and to pay RSPCA costs of Β£400.
Bullock's defence asked the court not to give him a custodial sentence as he would miss his basic army training.
RSPCA inspector Jan Edwards said: "This case is particularly distressing as the dog should have been placed back into RSPCA care under the terms of adoption, rather than being passed on to people who could not care for him.
"In Alfie's last moments he would have suffered pain and extreme distress whilst being strangled by Bullock - a brutal and calculated act which fills me with sadness, disbelief and horror."

An unemployed construction worker who microwaved his favourite hamster to death has been jailed for nine weeks.
Anthony Parker, 29, of Holyrood Way, Hartlepool, Teesside, was banned from keeping animals for five years by magistrates in the town.
When police came to his home in the early hours of February 23, he admitted putting his pet in the cooker after a drunken row with his girlfriend.
The court heard he told officers: "I didn't mean to kill her. She was the best hamster I ever had. She was called Suzie."
Parker shook his head as he was led away from the dock at Hartlepool Magistrates' Court in handcuffs.
Chairman of the bench Barbara Sutherland told him the starting point had been 12 weeks but that was reduced to nine because of his guilty plea. "You will serve half in prison and the rest on licence," she told him.
Parker admitted causing unnecessary suffering to a Syrian hamster by microwaving it, resulting in its death.
Neil Taylor, prosecuting, said the animal had been killed in a cruel way. Parker had been drinking all day and when his girlfriend came home, they rowed. The defendant told police he had not meant to kill Suzie, but admitted putting her in the cooker.
He said he wanted his lover to see the pet. He later said he had no recollection of events.
Officers found Suzie in a green wheely bin outside. "It was clear the hamster died in agony," Mr Taylor said. The animal's lips were burned and its eyes were opaque.

A recent monstrous murder of a 3-month-old puppy in the Bogrov dog shelter near Sofia has generated an outrage in Bulgaria and among animal rights advocates and environmentalists from around the world.
Novinite.com (Sofia News Agency) has received dozens of letters by Bulgarian and international readers expressing their indignation with barbarian act.
The skin of the three-year-old puppy Jessy was found by workers and volunteers in the Bogrov dog shelter near Sofia the morning of August 28th 2010..
Because of lack of funds, the shelter is not manned at night and has no guards. An unknown perpetrator is believed to have skinned the puppy on inside the dog shelter leaving behind only the skin.
The atrocious crime was committed the night before Jessy was supposed to be adopted by a Dutch family that was going to take her to the Netherlands.
The Bulgarian police authorities have been alerted about the case; the Animal Rescue Sofia and The Four Paws Foundation are offering an award of BGN 1 000 for any information about the perpetrator and to anybody who is ready to witness before the police and courts.
The animal rights activities have called for an urgent amendment of the Bulgarian legislation referring to cruelty against animals because under the current laws if found guilty, the person who skinned the little puppy would get a BGN 500 fine as a maximum punishment.
The Bulgarian and international activists have been outraged by the arrogance of the crime committed demonstratively on the territory of the dog shelter.
Volunteers of the Animal Rescue Sofia have started to take shifts as night guards at the Bogrov shelter since the night of the incident.
They have called for a public effort in Bulgaria to punish the murderer of the puppy, and for a campaign to raise awareness in the Bulgarian society about cruelty against animals.
Spokesman Svetoslav Petrov from ARS said that there were no traces of blood on the premises so they believe Puppy Jessy was taken off premises and her skin and head brought back. He added that a man nicknamed "Chin Lee" has sent a note to ARS describing to them how it was done to "keep the meat tasty and tender".
The animal rights activists believe Jessy's murder was not an act done in the heat of the moment. It was a pre-meditated act of violence designed to send a"message" to Animal Rescuers across Bulgaria who are currently seeking to persuade the Bulgarian government to criminalize animal cruelty.
The Dutch family that was supposed to adopt Jessy adopted one of her sisters. However, readers of Novinite.com (Sofia News Agency) have alerted us Jessy's sister died on the plane en route to the Netherlands. Her adopters believe that she had been given a poison with delayed effects. The causes of the death of the second puppy are examined by veterinarians.
The tragedy of the puppy has led to the creation of a Facebook group entitled "Justice for Jessy the pup from Bogrov" which already has about 500 members.

The incident with the puppy comes about two months after Bulgaria was shocked by another crime against an animal in the town of Dryanovo where a dog was found alive with its four legs cut off.
The Bulgarian capital Sofia has been struggling for years with the problem of stray dogs which are estimated to number thousands.
